Billy (Bill) Carp Dixon, Sr. went to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on Saturday,
November 19, 2016 at Grayson Place in Denison, Texas. A memorial service will be held at
Parkside Baptist Church on Friday, December 2, 2016 2:00 p.m. with Jerry Coffman and Charles
Cole officiating.
Bill was born to Jesse and Mattie Mae (Woolever) Dixon on November 2, 1930 in Snyder, Texas.
He was the baby and the only boy in the family. He grew up with his four older sisters in Snyder,
the Ira Community, and Post, Texas before moving to Denison in August, 1968. He married
Mary Margaret Chastain on April 19, 1951 in Lovington, New Mexico. They raised five
children together. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a
“Roughneck” in the oil field industry, a salesman for National Life Insurance Agency and then
worked for the City of Denison before his retirement. He became a Christian in his early 30s and
joined the Calvary Baptist Church of Post, Texas. In 1968, he led his family to join Parkside
Baptist Church, where he helped to start the bus ministry. He was an avid football fan, especially
for the Texas Longhorns and passed that passion on to his children. For his 80th
birthday in 2010,
three of his daughters took him to the Texas Longhorn and Texas Tech Red Raider game in
Lubbock, Texas. They often attended high school playoff games together as well.
He was preceded in death, by his parents, his wife, Margaret, May 28, 2005 after 54 years of
marriage; his sisters, Annie Mae Cole, LaNell Warren, Melvena Coverdell and Faye Dell Petty,
and Frances Dixon that died at birth. He also was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Dale
Rapp and Mike Carrell.
He is survived by one son, Billy Carp Dixon, Jr. (Karen) of Sherman; four daughters, Pat Rapp
(John Geer), Frances Carrell, and Jame Swindell (Keith) all of Pottsboro; Sandy Petree (Joe) of
Savoy, Texas. Grandchildren: Brent Jackson, Ricky Powell, Nathan Carrell, Dixon Carrell,
Lindsay Swindell and Hannah Swindell all of Pottsboro; Robyn Petree of Austin, Jenny Harris
of Savoy, Amy Gage of Denison, Kasey Gullett of Mansfield, and Kelley Carrell of Arlington,
Texas. Great-grandchildren: Colton Jackson, Tuff Jackson, Tyler Powell, Hailey Powell, Nick
Powell, Hunter Harris, Wyatt Harris, Becca Gullett, Elijah Mihalakis. He also had numerous
nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the building funds of Parkside Baptist
Church at 301 Lillis Lane Denison, TX 75020 or First Baptist Church of Savoy at P.O. Box 177 Savoy, Texas 75479.

    I am so sorry to hear about the loss of yall’s dad. I have sweet memories of him from my childhood. I would love the home made ice cream your parents would make and lived his firm strong voice. I remember him being a very hard worker and his grandson Brent and Ricky often helping him if he wasn’t getting on to them about something. He was a very kind,loving soul with strong hands and a huge heart. All of yall are in my prayers.
