I am very sorry to hear of David’s passing. I have known David since I began work with the GCSO as a deputy in the jail in 1997. SInce David had been a Military Policeman in the Army we had something in common as I had been an MP in the army for over 16 years. For the past approximately three years David has ridden with me in my army MP jeep in the local parades. I shall miss him on Veterans Day. SSgt Ira Harrison

David, You and I shared time together as Negotiator/Crisis Intervener while members of TAHN, Texas Assn Hostage Negotiators. We worked as partners for about 12 years doing this jog at the Sheriffs Office. We worked Patrol together on Evening Shift several years also. But most of all, we met in 1978 at Denison Police Department when I first hired on. We have been friends since that time, Your wife Sue and the kids grew up in a Law Enforcement family, from your Dad Jessie in Bryan County Okla back when. I was always jealous of you. You grew the best mustache I was ever close to and then the handlebars. I am not able to do that but I was jealous of your stache.Rest easy and visit with our brothers who passed before us. I know you are there with Stormy.

What a man and fellow brother in blue. I will cherish the time spent with David in a Patrol car as a rookie reserve for the SO even though he took me to the Far East side of Grayson County on some unmarked backroad, got out of the drivers seat and told me to find my way out… What memories we have.. Love you always David, Austin and Michelle Burtis

  • John Pearson

    says:

I started with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office in 1984 as a reserve. From the first time I met David I knew he was a kind and caring man that also had a very good mind. He could remember things he did in law enforcement that Most would have already forgot. David knew the law forward and backward. Between him and Tim Shearer I knew I had the best two people I could learn from. David was a great man and I am so sad to know that I won’t be able to talk to him. He always had a great story to tell and had a knack to make anyone feel at ease. I will greatly miss him. May he sit on the right side of God. God gets to enjoy his company now. Love you brother. John Pearson
