Richard Wayne Shivers, 82 year old Pottsboro resident, passed away at Texoma Medical Center on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
Visitatation will be at the Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel on Monday, February 25, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel with Chaplain Billy Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Oklahoma.
Richard was born on October 2, 1930 in Caddo, Oklahoma, the son of Roy and Belle Deason Shivers. He graduated from Achille High School in Achille, Oklahoma. He and Wenonah Rochelle were married on May 10, 1951 in Calera, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2009.
He retired from C&H Trucking Company as a truck driver, but he was also a brick layer and carpenter. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Lakesite Post #7873 in Pottsboro.
He is survived by his sons, Larry Wayne Shivers and his wife, Judy of Pottsboro and Mark Shivers and his wife, Joyce of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Karen of Colbert, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wenonah; son, Steve; brothers, Joe and George and sister, Dixie Bishop.

    My strongest memory of Richard was when he was District 1 Commander for the VFW and wife Winona his first Lady. Auxiliary President was Kathy Nelson and her husband Larry first Man. Richard will always be in my heart as a kind and gentle man except when he needed to be firm. God bless you Richard and family.
