Newton W. "Buddy" Hickman, 91, passed away at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, Sunday, July 8, 2012. Mr. Hickman was born on April 23, 1921 in Ennis, TX to William Newton and Irma Price Hickman. He graduated from Ennis High School and married Nell Wood in Dallas, TX on March 27, 1948. Mr. Hickman retired from Southwestern-Bell Telephone Company after 35 years of service in Dallas, TX. He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II, serving with Merrill's Marauders as a Medic in Burma. He was in the Air National Guard Reserves from 1953-1956. Mr. Hickman was Past Commander of V.F.W. Post 7873, and he was a member of Parkside Baptist Church. He loved hunting and fishing, but his first love was his family. Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Nell Hickman, son: Dana Eugene Hickman, and four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by two sons: Weldon Douglas Hickman of Garland, TX and Dennis James Hickman and wife, Karen of Sherman, TX; one daughter: Debbie Temple of Corinth, TX; one sister: Mildred Neaves of Ennis, TX; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Mary Elium of Pottsboro, TX. The funeral service for Mr. Hickman will be 10:00 am, Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Johnson-Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Pallbeares will be grandsons: Dustin Hickman, Kevin Hickman, Drew Hickman, Michael Griffith, Jason Hickman, and Mike Peschel. Mr. Hickman will be laid to rest at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, TX.
