Julia Merlynn McClain, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on April 8, 1937, to David and Verna Hill, and her life was a testament to love, kindness, and faith.
Julia embodied the essence of a nurturing spirit, dedicating herself to her roles as a housewife, daughter, sister, mother, and friend. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from sewing and cooking to decorating her home with warmth and creativity. A devout Christian, Julia’s love for gospel music and her avid reading of the Bible reflected her deep connection to her faith.
Known for her radiant smile and welcoming nature, Julia was a beacon of light in her community. She cherished moments spent socializing with neighbors, family, and friends, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime. Her love extended beyond humans to her beloved dogs, including Sissy and Teddy, whom she adored with all her heart.
Julia’s capacity for love knew no bounds; she cared for others more than she did for herself, touching countless lives with her compassion and generosity. Her genuine warmth and acceptance meant that she never met a stranger, and everyone she encountered felt embraced by her unconditional love.
Julia leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her five children: Cynthia Stagner, Michael Barnett, Lori Dee and husband Kenny, Lisa Griffin Burchett and husband Larry Burchett, and Sharon Edwards and husband George; eight grandchildren: Dr. William Stagner and wife Chloe, Amanda Morgan and husband Brian, Brandon Bullard and wife Tena, Stuart Barnett, Ashley Dee, Sam Dee, Mallory Smith and husband Neal, and Nick Edwards and wife Kristina: eight great-grandchildren: Julia, Jack, and Jessi Morgan, Anna and Leah Bullard, Gabriel and Noah Smith, and Ember Vincent; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Verna Hill; her daughter, Carol Adams; her former husband and father of her six children, Billy Barnett; her spouse, Gene McClain; her sister, Robbye Turner; and her brother, Dean Hill.
Julia’s life will be celebrated and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire and guide those whose lives she touched.
A service to honor Julia’s life will be held Friday, May 31, at 2 PM. There will be a visitation prior to the service starting at 12 PM. The service will be held at Johnson-Moore Chapel, 511 FM 120, Pottsboro, Texas.
