Bernard Kevin “Mac” McNamara of Pottsboro, Texas passed away on March 10, 2023 at the age of 82. He was born on March 6, 1941 in London, England to George and Winifred Alice (Jenkins) McNamara. He married Darlene Beverly in July of 1987 in Portland, Oregon.
Mac was raised in London and attended the Saint Thomas School and Clackamas Community College. He served in the British Arny where he began teaching driving skills on all types of military vehicles. During his driving career, he also served as a tour bus driver. This included transporting dignitaries across Europe. Over his forty-five years of his driving career, he accumulated over five million safe miles. His recognitions include the 1967 “Knight of the Road” certificate, 1984 Highway Hero for the State of California, and the Oregon Trucking and Safety Management Council Certificate. Most importantly, he was published in the Good Neighbors of the Highways Edition for his role in helping stranded motorists in the desert at 2 a.m. He ensured their safety and assisted them until additional help arrived.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene McNamara; and his parents.
Mac will be interred next to his wife, Darlene, at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro, Texas.
