Alvin Raymond Hugghins

March 7, 1921 - August 11, 2016

Alvin Raymond Hugghins was born to Jessie Alvin and Mary Lee Langston Hugghins on March 7, 1921 in Rusk, Texas. He married Juanita Arlene Holsomback on June 8, 1947, enjoying almost 60 years of marriage before her death on January 12, 2007. He left this earth to be with his Lord, his wife, and all the loved ones that he outlived, on August 11, 2016.
As a teen, he ran a gas station on Gaston Ave. in Dallas, Texas for a dollar a day and was so proud to have that job. He truly was part of the greatest generation. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier, Shangri La. He had amazing stories of passing through the Panama Canal, watching as the bombs were dropped on Japan, and then witnessing Japan surrender to General MacArthur.
After the war, he went to work for SMU and then began his career at Johnson & Johnson, first in Dallas and then moved when they opened the plant in Sherman. He worked in the maintenance department for over 30 years before retiring in 1983.
Ray’s memory was a constant source of amazement to his family. He knew when EVERYONE’S birthday came around and knew what day they died. He could tell you when his son started his jobs and even the day he bought his first house.
After his wife’s passing, the two greatest joys in Ray’s life were his only son, Jim and his granddaughter, Shannon. No one was prouder or loved their child more than Ray. He was devoted to his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter until his last breath. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He leaves behind his son. James Alvin Hugghins and daughter-in-law, Kay (Marshall) Hugghins of Sherman, his granddaughter, Shannon Taylor Neff of Dayton, PA, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, & nephews, in laws and friends.
Visitation is 10am Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home and the funeral will follow at 11am with Reverend Bobby Hawkins officiating. A private burial will be Monday, August 15 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
