Basil F. Mauk, 95, of Denison died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at The Homestead of Denison.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Bill Brown officiating.
Basil was born in Denison on March 25, 1919, the son of Clifford E. and Georgia R. Ormsby Mauk. He attended Denison schools and was married to Ellora M. Lilly on August 3, 1946 in Denison. She preceded him in death on August 29, 1995. Basil served in the U.S. Calvary from 1940, then in the Army-Air Corps during World War II, serving as an aircraft crew chief on B-24’s and B-17’s while stationed in England during the war from 1942-1945. He was a switchman for the MKT Railroad, a 60 year member of the Billie Mosse Masonic Lodge #1152 and a member of Waples Memorial United Methodist Church. Mauk St. and Mauk Circle where Manning Park Plaza is was named for Basil’s grandfather.
He is survived by his son, Thomas C. Mauk and his companion, Juanita of San Antonio, Texas and his sister, Betty Moore of Denison.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
