Betty Marie Lake, 90, passed away at her home in Denison on Saturday, July 31, 2021.
Betty was born in Wade, OK on January 16, 1931, the daughter of Carl Lee and Edith (McIntire) Holder.
Betty met Eldon P. Lake when she was 15 years old at a school function. He had joined the Army and was sent to Italy. It was there that Eldon had a German prisoner paint an oil portrait of her from a school photo he had in his wallet for the price of two cartons of cigarettes, it still hangs in their home. When Eldon was back home in Oklahoma he wanted to get married and threatened to rejoin the Army if she didn’t. Betty turned 16 in January and they married on March 15, 1947 in Sherman, Texas with the Justice of the Peace. The next day Eldon turned 20 and their adventures began.
Betty is survived by her husband of 74 years, Eldon P. Lake; daughters, Ronda Lake Wright of Denison and Barbara Lake Bailey and her husband, Eugene; sisters, NaDean Musgrove of Albany, OK, Jeanette Dirickson of Albuquerque, NM and Carla Sue Blackmon of Denison, TX; four grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Verlin “Bub” Holder and grandson, Timothy Riddle.
Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Central Church of Christ in Denison with Brother Jess Whitlock officiating.
