Clayton Holland of Denison, Texas passed away on March 23, 2023 at the age of 92.
He was born on April 20, 1930 in Brooklyn, Michigan to Claude and Lillian (Schwartz) Holland.
Clayton was a man of many talents. He graduated from the University of Lexington with a master’s
degree in theology. He was a veteran and proudly served in the US Army. He was a faithful member
of the St Michael and All Angels Catholic Church and had a servant’s heart. He had never met a
stranger and helped advocate for those in need. He was the Chief Chaplain for the Bonham VA for
many years. Clayton had a love for music and instruments, specifically, the pump organ. He enjoyed
refurbishing antique organs and was very talented with his hands, including his carpentry skills. He
also enjoyed learning different languages and new cultures. He was a devoted Christian and
welcomed anyone into his home with open arms. He will be missed deeply by all those that knew
him.
Clayton is survived by his four step children, Joann Cormier of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Patricia
Percy and husband David of Fossil, Oregon, Carolyn Carmichael and husband G.W. of Whitesboro,
Texas, and Rod Carmichael and wife DeDe of Sherman, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 20 great
grandchildren; one nephew, Paul Geiger; and one niece, Beth Geiger, both of Michigan.
Clayton was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Holland; two sisters, Joann Holland and Nancy
Geiger; and his parents.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 11:00 am at St Michael & All Angels
Catholic Church, 101 E Texas Street, Denison, Texas 75020. Following the service, a procession will
make its way to Fairview Cemetery in Denison for a committal service. The family will receive guests
during a visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with a rosary beginning at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home, 631 West Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020.
