David Carroll DeFratus of Pottsboro, Texas passed away on March 10, 2023 at the age of 82. He was born on May 5, 1940 in Pottsboro, Texas to Harry and Nanny Ruth (Holland) DeFratus. He married Clyva Jayne Pruitt on May 12, 1962 at the Walnut Street church of Christ in Sherman, Texas.
David was a faithful and hardworking man all his life. He spent twenty years working at Sears before retiring in 1984. He then worked for Pottsboro ISD in the maintenance department for twenty-two years. He served in many capacities at his church, serving as a deacon and elder. He enjoyed carpentry work and was quite the artist when it came to handyman work. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and was known for his tomato plants. David loved his family deeply and will be missed by all who knew him.
David is survived by his daughter, Karen Dotson and husband Robert of Pottsboro, Texas; two grandchildren, Cole Dotson and wife Susan of Denison, Texas and Caden Dotson and wife Kindall of Commerce, Texas; two great grandchildren, Aly Dotson and Coleten Dotson; one sister, Dorothy Walker of Rineyville, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clyva Jayne DeFratus; son, David Mark DeFratus; two brothers, Enoch “Sonny” DeFratus and Leon DeFratus; and two sisters, Margaret Ramey and Mildred Lancaster.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Holloway Cemetery, 5684 Luella Rd, Sherman, TX 75090. The family will receive guests on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home, 631 W Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020.
