Doris Wynell Wolfe, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025. She was born in Altoga, Texas, on August 30, 1933, to Alora Mae and Ray Burton Treadway. Originally named Wanda Lee, shortly after her birth and that of her twin sister, Sedelga Glee, their mother, Alora Mae, passed away. John and Argel Jones adopted and renamed Doris, while her sister was adopted by the Box family. She grew up in Melissa and McKinney, Texas, and was of the Baptist faith. Doris was a beloved mother and grandmother, and she will be missed by all.
She married James Wilson Wolfe in Collin County on July 4, 1953. Together, they raised nine children: six sons and three daughters.
Doris had many talents. In her early years, she learned to play piano and could play by ear. She played for churches throughout North Texas in her youth and later enjoyed playing at nursing homes. An excellent hobby seamstress, she tailored all of her own clothes. She lovingly crafted and stitched doll furniture for her grandchildren. Doris was also an avid reader, frequently visiting libraries and bookshops in her spare time. She loved decorating her home and visiting antique shops. She had an impressive knowledge of plants and trees, able to identify each by name. Doris also had a sharp business sense, having learned bookkeeping from her father at an early age—a skill she used throughout her life.
In the early 1970s, Doris began working at Wysong Nursing Center in McKinney, Texas. She spent the next 40 years passing medication at Pavilion Nursing Home and at Homestead Nursing Home. Doris had a passion for medicine and working with patients in healthcare. She was dedicated to her profession and received many honors throughout her career.
Doris loved life and will be remembered for her liveliness and cheerful spirit. She maintained an impeccable daily routine, always ensuring her hair was set, her makeup was done, her eyebrows arched perfectly, and she wore her signature red lipstick. Doris enjoyed watching reality shows like The Real Housewives, having a Dr Pepper—she’d often remind you that she’d only had “one” that day. She loved spontaneous road trips—whether long or short, if the car was moving, she was ready to go.
Doris supported her children with an open mind and was always there for them in times of need. She recognized and encouraged their positive traits, always reminding them that they could “do anything.” She loved all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was immensely proud of each one.
Doris is survived by six children, Barbara Spurgin, Glenda Wolfe, Lesia Blassingame, Jimmy Wolfe, Ronnie Wolfe and wife Barbara, and Bruce Wolfe; grandchildren, Christopher, Bryce, Cristina, Shannon, Crimson, JayJay, Lindsey, Nikki, Cory, Kirsten, Kanyen, Hailee, Brian, and Peter.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Wolfe; three sons, Elvin Wolfe, Ricky Wolfe, and Melvin Wolfe; Grandchildren, Jeremy and Destiny; Son in law, Bobby Spurgin; and two brothers, Glenn and Norman Treadway.
