POTTSBORO
Ida L. (Penny) Childers, 84, died Saturday, March 24, 2018 at her home in Pottsboro.
Penny was born in Coalgate, OK on May 29, 1933, the daughter of James and Mary Fortner Holman. She graduated from high school in Pauls Valley, OK. She and Don R. Childers were married in Gainesville on January 31, 1953.
Penny retired from the Dallas County District Attorney felony department; was of the Church of Christ faith; lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7873-Pottsboro and member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 231-Pottsboro. She loved to garden, fish, travel, camp and boat. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with them.
She is survived by her husband, Don R. Childers of Pottsboro; sons, Larry Childers and his wife, Krista of Durant, OK and Bob Childers and his wife, Joanna of Fort Worth, TX; daughter, Cindy Rodriguez and her husband, Rudy of Colleyville, TX; sisters, Carrie L Manry of San Diego, CA., Georgia Johnson of Eufaula, OK and Donna Begley of Boynton. OK; grandchildren, Blake Childers, Abby Childers, Callie Childers, Lauren Childers, Shelby Rodriguez Motz and her husband, Stephen; Garrett Childers and Nick Rodriguez.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018 at VFW Post 7873-Pottsboro with Chaplain Perry Tarver officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to VFW Post 7873 Auxiliary, 250 VFW Dr., Pottsboro, TX 75076.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home in Denison.
