James Joseph Ingham Jr.

James Joseph Ingham Jr.

June 14, 1936 - November 22, 2024

James Joseph Ingham Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on June 14, 1936, to James Joseph Ingham and Lania Owens, James lived a remarkable life filled with service, adventure, and love.

James proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War as a submariner aboard the USS Tunney. Following his military service, he explored a variety of careers that showcased his boundless curiosity and work ethic. From his time as a deckhand on a coastal freighter to helping build the first lunar module at General Dynamics, James embraced each opportunity with dedication. He also worked at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography as a diver and took part in experimental missions in Italy. In addition, James was a firefighter, truck driver, general contractor, and board member of the Preston Volunteer Fire Department.

James’ talents and passions were as diverse as his career. A skilled woodworker and builder, he constructed greenhouses and worked as a beekeeper and farmer. He was also a licensed pilot, a racecar driver, and an avid motorcycle enthusiast. His love of music shone through as a member of two bagpipe bands, and he delighted in playing various instruments, singing, dancing and acting.

James had a deep commitment to his faith and community. As a member of Georgetown Baptist Church, he participated in several mission trips, including travels to Mexico, Honduras, Oklahoma, Louisiana after Hurricane Harvey, and even Russia alongside Patch Adams. He volunteered at the Walker House and was active in the Grayson County College athletic department. His contributions left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

After a 35-year courtship, James married his beloved Jo Ann on June 17, 2018, and together they built a life filled with love and shared adventures. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jo Ann; his children, Todd Ingham (Deborah), Jeff Ingham (Kristin Edwards), Paul Ingham (Chris Fuller), Stephen Riha (Bridget), and Terri Riha (Betty Fruin); his grandchildren, Jake, Kaitlyn, Kallie, Baileigh, and Peighton; his sister, Stuart Dill; and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph Ingham and Lania Owens, and his son, Ken Riha.

James’ legacy is one of kindness, service, and zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.

A memorial service will be held Monday December 9th at 10 am, Georgetown Baptist Church, 207 Georgetown Rd., Pottsboro, TX 75076.

The family suggest that any donations be made to Georgetown Baptist Church for the building fund in James’s honor. You may send a check or donate online and add James Ingham’s name in the memo.

James will be missed dearly. I got the honor of meeting & getting the chance to know him through Grayson College Softball—our #1 fan. Him & Jo Ann were always there supporting us & even made the trip to come watch us play at the World Series in Yuma. I will never forget his kind words and heart. Sending all my love and prayers.
