Jessie “Lou” Gill, 89, died on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Celebrations Senior Living of Denison. Jessie Lou was born in Grayson County, Texas on June 24, 1931, the daughter of Emma Maurine Waldrop and J.E. Jackson, a local farmer.
Jessie Lou graduated from Denison High School and Texas State College for Women with a degree in Education. She married Elmer Junior “E.J.” Gill on December 27, 1951 at Hagerman Baptist Church. Jessie Lou and her husband E.J., who was a machinist for IBM, moved from Sherman to Denver, Colorado and finally to Austin, Texas, before she returned home to Sherman in 2014.
She and E.J. shared one daughter, Beverly “Diane” Gill. Jessie Lou was an only child and was preceded in death by her parents, husband E.J., and daughter Diane.
Jessie Lou retired from teaching before moving to Colorado. She taught elementary school for 25 years and specialized in music education. Jessie Lou was an accomplished pianist. She had the rare talent of hearing a tune once and immediately being able to sit down in front of the piano and replay the piece without errors. Jessie Lou was an expert shopper with impeccable taste, who was always on the hunt for a great bargain. She also loved playing bridge, and traveling the world, especially to visit her daughter Diane when she lived in Paris, France.
Jessie Lou is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service, with burial to follow, will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro, TX with Scott Galyon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
