Kristy Petruzelli

December 15, 1956 - January 6, 2023

Kristy ‘Kris’ Jo Petruzelli of Sherman, Texas, passed away on January 6, 2023, at the age of 66. She was born December 15, 1956, to William and Darlene (Wagner) Wilkinson in Marengo, Iowa. Kris married Joe Petruzelli on May 2, 1987, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Kris had an amazing spirit despite being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 21. Those who knew her would describe her as one of the strongest individuals they had known. Her doctor even described her as the ‘bionic woman.’ The positive attitude and kindness she carried was the example of her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. During her final moments here on earth, she was accompanied by her dearest and longtime friends: Meg, Kim, Charlotte, Tammy, Rhonda, Connie, David, Mark, and Ed. After her last breath, she stopped by the rainbow bridge to pick up her dogs, Molly, Bida and Bonnie.

Kris is survived by her husband, Joe Petruzelli; Godson, Tyler Wilkinson; Brother, Jeff Wilkinson; Two brother-in-laws, Michael Skarja and Anthony Skarja; Two sister-in-laws, Candice Wilkinson and Michelle Skarja; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Darlene; brother, Bill Wilkinson Jr.; and Mother and Father-in-law, Yvonne and Otto Skarja.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Texoma Medical Center, to Jeff, Cole, and A.L. for being by Joe’s side at Texoma Medical Center, Doctor Grant Craig in Sherman, Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Plano, and her caregivers, Leora, Kim and Libby.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a local food pantry of your choice.

A poem written by her brother-in-law, Michael Skarja:

HEAVENS GATES
Tonight oh Lord open those Heaven Gates for an Angel comes to you. She looks for peace and rest beyond the sky so blue.

She comes to join her Family that awaits her journeys end. Open those Heaven Gates oh Lord and welcome in my friend.

Her spirit was that of a young woman but her pain it ran so deep. She pushed on though she suffered till her body became to weak.

I pray to you oh Lord tonight please hear me as I say. Lord open up Heavens Gates for my sister on this day.

No words can really convey the way I am feeling right now but hear goes; Kris was the love of my life my very special angel. She was one of the bravest and most resilient people I have ever known. I think she got a that from her mom and her relationship with Jesus. She loved you all and was so loved. The support that I have received from family and friends has comforted me Thank you all. A few beautiful things I would like to share was that she was surrounded by her best friends till the end. When she took her last breath, a small tear rolled down her cheek Kris’s goodbye tears of joy. knowing that she would meet her Saviour Jesus Christ, family and friends and all the Saints and Angels. When I got home the night of her death, I went outside to hang the American flag (she was a patriot) and I could hear church bells ringing in the distance. Wow! We will be celebrating her life on the first Saturday in May (Ky Derby Day) We were married on May 2 Derby Day. She loved horses. Kris always wanted to have a Kentucky Derby party. So here you go sweetheart. We encourage family and friends to attend. There will be more details down the road. May the good Lord send his brightest and most loving angels to watch over you all And I am going to end with something Kris and I would say to each other before we went to bed at night Sleep with Angels my love.

Kris was a wonderful sister and a best friend! When I was still working for Texas Instruments Kris and I would go for a ride and get something to eat every week. She would get excited when a new restaurant was opening. After I retired I didn’t make it to Sherman very often so we would talk multiple times a week, but when I did get to Sherman we would have to try a new restaurant. We could talk about anything and she was always interested in what and how Cole was doing. We also talked politics, economy, medicine and she was a patriot to the end. Kris was my pharmacy consultant, she knew about every drug and its side affects. When she was little Kris had trouble learning to make change and the whole family would take turns pretending to buy something and have her make change. She finally got it and never got back the incorrect change. .Kris was very intelligent and kept up with the stock market and was money wise. Kris loved her reality tv shows and we talked about the weeks episodes and the silliness of them. Kris enjoyed keeping up with family and friends and always wanted to be able to get together for a big reunion and dreamed of taking a family cruise together. There were two problems with this dream though, first was her inability to get around comfortably and the second one was our family usually heads to Alaska and she wanted to go where it was sunny and warm. Cole and I were with her at TMC before they flew her to Plano and I got to give her a kiss on her forehead and tell her I loved her before they lifted off. Kikibabe, I love you and miss you! I am comforted knowing that you are now with our Lord and our family and no longer in any pain or discomfort. Looking forward to our reunion.

What a beautiful poem. I never had the opportunity to meet her face to face but through our conversations on the phone I could feel her kind spirt and gentle heart. May she now rest in the comfort of our Savior. I look forward to the day we will meet face to face. Peace be with you sweet lady.

Whenever Kris came over to my house to hang out with my sister Charlotte, it was like watching an episode of The Carol Burnette Show! Kris knew how to walk the the line when sharing her humorous antics in a public setting. Our parents loved having her over because of her positive influence she had on Charlotte. Anytime I sent her an email, I would open with “GREETINGS TO MY CTS (Cross Town Sister)”! She would close with, “Love CTB (Cross Town Brother)”!

Where do I start to write about a wonderful soul that Kris had. I’ve known Kris since 6th grade and all the memories we have shared will not be forgotten. I will cherish her smile and especially her laughter and will truly miss being with her. I thank God every day for letting me be apart of her life and marrying a remarkable man like Joe. Joe will always be her rock and thank you Joe for taking care of Kris and letting her friends be with her on her last day. Kris is one of those incredible humans that bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains, and she will remain in my thoughts and prayers every day. Kristy was so dear to Kyle and I. We had so much fun with her and Joe! I will never forget she went with our family on a trip to New Orleans. What fun and so many laughs and memories! I remember riding in the car with her as a kid and laughing! I could write a novel of memories! She had a million dollar smile and her laugh was just the best! Heaven gained a bright angel-I’m Sure she is keeping everyone smiling and laughing. A piece of my heart is missing. I love you my dearest Krissy:heart:

Kris was my sister in-law. I was so sad when Joe called and told the news that Kris was to pass soon. He told me there was some close friends from her childhood there to comfort Kris as well as Joe. That really warmed my heart , that Kris and Joe had so much love and support. What a blessing. Thank you ladies. Me and my Aunt Renee’ took a road trip to see Kris and Joe. We came from Indiana to celebrate our birthdays. We had a blast! We belly laughed so much. That was the first time my Aunt had met Kris. They really hit it off. I believe Kris was a guardian angel here hear on earth, mainly for Joe and Joe for Kris, as well as all the peoples hearts she touched. I’ve never seen such a loving relationship like theirs. Joe took such great care of Kris. Kris will truly be missed. But now she’s joined our advocates in heaven. she will meet my mom for the first time. wow! How powerful is that? When we left their house me and my aunt we’re talking about how great we felt. That road trip I believe really enlightened both of our lives. I feel more alive and vibrant. My Aunt as well. Always in my thoughts and prayers. Take time to wish to upon a star!
