Mary I. Utter, 94, died at her residence in Denison on Sunday, July 12, 2015.
Funeral services with military honors conducted by Fort Hood Honor Guard will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Chapel On The Hill Mausoleum in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Reverend Flora “Flo” Crawford Covey will officiate.
Mary was born in Gustavus, Ohio on May 21, 1921, the daughter of George and Marie Eapps Wood. She attended nursing school at St. Elizabeth in Youngstown, Ohio and received her Bachelors of Science degree. She enlisted, right out of school, into the United States Army on June 1, 1945 as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. Mary and Woodrow Utter were married in Ohio on July 2, 1945. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1992. She worked as a nurse at Medical Plaza in Sherman for many years. She liked to read and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Woodrow R. Utter of Denison, Raymond Utter of Alaska and Tom Utter of Denison; daughters, Linda K. Moore of Denison, Sandra K. Hamilton and Jane P. Beals both of Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Woodrow; two brothers and two sisters.
