Olan Leon Kee, 90 of Pottsboro, formerly of McKinney, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Stone Brook Assisted Living and Memory Care of Denison, with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home Pottsboro Chapel with his grandson, Timothy Leon Burleson officiating. Interment will follow at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro with Military Honors conducted by the Fort Hood Honor Guard. Family night will be held Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Pottsboro Chapel, the chapel will open at 4:30 PM on Friday.
He was born on July 31, 1925 in Burkburnett, TX to J. E. and Sarah Elizabeth York Kee. Olan served in the US Army during World War II and is a lifetime member of the Lakeside VFW Post #7873, Lakeside Elks Lodge #238 and the Lakeside American Legion Post #231. He was very proud of serving his country and remained a devoted advocate for veterans affairs. Olan married Sylvia Workans on July 26, 1947 in McKinney, TX. She preceded him in death on July 28, 1980, and he then later married, Bette McElyea on November 11, 1981. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2008. Mr. Kee was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was very active in his community, especially while living in McKinney. He was talented in many areas and applied that passion in the many positions he held including working as head of the maintenance department of the City of McKinney, Volunteer Fireman and the Assistant Fire Marshal. After retiring from McKinney, he moved to Pottsboro where he and his son-in-law Charles opened their own business, BK Automotive. He enjoyed working alongside the “son he never had”. Olan was remarkable working with his hands, and loved the challenge of fixing many things. His ideal daily routine was waking up early drinking coffee and then spending time working in his shop. He was not only a master of Mechanics he was a jack of all trades mechanically, and mentored his grandsons in mechanics. Olan loved the Lord and was a proud member of Preston Community Church. He was a very generous individual and will be missed dearly by all that knew him.
Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Thrasher and husband, Dan of Wylie, Ava Burleson and husband Charles of Pottsboro, Denise Tatarzyn and husband, Ken of Brevard, NC, and Lisa Frazier and husband, Bill of Rockwall; brother Dyerl Kee of Duncanville; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; daughter, Janice Rae; great-grandson, Gage Burleson; 5 brothers; and one sister.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 600 E. Taylor St., Ste. 3005, Sherman, TX. 75090; or to The Monday Morning Ministry at Hagerman Baptist Church 4619 Refuge Rd., Sherman, TX. 75092.
