Pat was such a special woman. She was in several of my classes in college and those are still the best semesters of my teaching career, and Pat the best student.

There are no words sufficient to express the beauty, the tender heart, and the strength she had to fight the disease that ravaged her body for decades. She was a loving daughter, a remarkable single mother, tremendously supportive sister and a dear free-spirited friend. Her family and I will miss her terribly but her presence, her indomitable spirit and deeply caring heart will always be with us.

Pat, being slightly older and a great deal wiser, taught me to put ice in my beer to make it colder, that you could take a plain material and turn it into a great looking pair of pants (they looked great on Pat anyway), how to face adversity and lemonade out of lemons, and how to find joy in everything around you. Her smile was ever present and her laughter infectious. We lost touch over the years, but I’m guessing Pat’s charm, wit and kindness towards others never faded. My sincere condolences to her family and close friends. I hope you’ll allow me to mourn and miss her with you – both the girl that I remember as well as the woman, wife and mother she became.
