Peggy Ruth Rambo

March 21, 1926 - February 11, 2016

DENISON
Peggy Ruth Wallace Rambo was born March 21, 1926 in Garber, Oklahoma. She passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Colbert, OK.
Her parents were Walter Harvey Wallace and Mildred Cooper Wallace. She was the fourth of eight children. She grew up moving from place to place because her Father worked in the oil fields. When she was in high school they moved to Durant, Oklahoma and that is where she met Rex Sinclair Rambo. When Rex saw Peggy with her natural platinum blonde hair and turquoise eyes, he told the other guys to stay away, that was going to be his wife.
Rex and Peggy were married for 64 years. They spent the first 30 years in Durant, OK where Peggy owned a drapery and upholstery business. The creations she developed decorated many homes in the southern Oklahoma and North Texas area. Rex was then transferred to Woodward, OK. where they made many new friends. They loved to travel, camp, square dance, attend the theatre and concerts, and Peggy was an avid quilter.
Above all, family was the most important part of their lives. They had two children, Sylvia Elaine Rambo McBrayer and Dr. Jack Howard Rambo. They were blessed with four grandchildren, Dr. Cassandra Elaine McBrayer Darst and husband, Mike, Shawn Keith McBrayer and fiancée, Meredith Wright, Jay Howard Rambo and wife, Natalie and Angela Jean Rambo Cunningham and husband, J.R. Even though her grand kids were grand, the great grandchildren were another wonderful blessing. They are Michael, Meghan and Logan Darst, Lukas and Alex Rambo, Braedyn, Rylan and Ashlynn Cunningham.
In July of 2007 Rex passed away and Peggy moved to Denison, TX. to help care for her son, Jack, who passed away from cancer in December 2007.
Peggy had always taught her children to never say the word “hate”, never pout or hold a grudge, and to always make the best of the situation. So she adjusted to her new life in Denison, even though she missed her friends in Woodward. She soon made new friends. She joined Waples Memorial United Methodist Church and enjoyed her Sunday School Class, the church family and her circle group. She joined book clubs, Woo Hoo (Red Hat) Girls and a group that played dominoes at Parkside Baptist Church.
Peggy reached a point that she realized she needed and wanted to live in an active environment where there were other seniors, so she moved to the Renaissance in Sherman. She quickly was accepted by everyone and enjoyed her bean bag baseball team, buka ball, balloon volleyball, exercise, bingo group and her card and domino friends. The message to the family was if you want to reach Peggy, call her before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m. because she will be doing something the rest of the time. The last two months of her life were spent at Nanaw’s Place in Colbert, OK., where she received the most loving and outstanding care anyone could have hoped for her to have. Special thanks goes to Dr. Ted Truly for his outstanding care of Peggy for many years, and to Guardian Hospice for their love and care these last two months.
Peggy was loved by the residents of the Renaissance, her many friends in Durant, Woodward, Denison and Colbert and was adored and loved by her family. She was generous, loving, feisty and kind. She had an infectious smile and personality. All that met her talked about how kind she was.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex; son, Dr. Jack Rambo; sisters, Dorothy Wallace Osborne, Mary Jane Wallace Rayburn; brothers, Bill and Bob Wallace and grandson, Matthew Phillip Rambo.
She is survived by the following: her daughter, Sylvia Elaine Rambo McBrayer and her husband, Keith; daughter-in-law, Dotty Rambo; afore mentioned grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Glen Wallace; sister-in-law, Juanita Wallace; brother, Jim Wallace, sister, Mary Wallace Cathy; brother-in-law, Walter Rambo and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The main thing Peggy would want everyone to remember, is to enjoy life, love one another, reach out to others and be right with the Lord.
Family visitation will be 1 p.m. at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home, one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Chuck Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant, OK.
The family suggests memorials to the Stephen Ministry or Waples Day School at Waples UMC, 830 W. Main St., Denison, TX 75020.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
