David Ard, age 69, died on Monday, June 4, 2018 at The Villagio of McKinney after a twelve-year battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Funeral Services will be held on June 7 at Johnson Moore Chapel in Pottsboro at 1:00PM. Military Honors will be conducted by Fort Hood Military Honor Guard. Private burial services will occur at a later date in Seagoville, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 6 at the Johnson Moore Chapel in Pottsboro. David was born November 8, 1948 in Oconee County, South Carolina to the late Lieutenant Colonel James Haney Ard and Robbie Faye Ard. David graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1966. He attended Grayson County College.
He lived in numerous locations within the United States as he was from an Air Force Family such as Bossier City, Louisiana, Fort Worth, and Corpus Christi but found his home in Pottsboro, Texas. He was employed at Safeway Stores, Inc. as an operator for 18 years. He retired from Alcoa Industries after 13 years as a forklift operator. He also owned David’s Lawn Care for over 25 years.
He was an avid rock hunter and collector. He enjoyed boating and skiing on Lake Texoma with his family.
He was an Army Vietnam Era Veteran. He served his country in Germany.
He is survived by sons, Shawn Brandon Ard of Pottsboro, Ryan Haynie Ard of Needville and his wife, Lauren, and three granddaughters, Allyson, Claire, and Macy. Survived by a sister, Jan Moon and husband, Jimmy, brothers, James Haynie Ard and wife, Lanelle, Steven Ard, and wife, Reenie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy Ard-Blattner and Bob Blattner of Pottsboro played a special role in his life as caregivers.
He was preceded in dead by his parents Lt. Colonel James Haynie Ard, Robbie Faye Meeker, and step-father, Lt. Colonel Thomas Bailey Meeker.
The family would like to thank all of those at The Villagio of McKinney for their loving care. Jared Gallegos, RN at Heart to Heart Hospice provided excellent care and sharing of information through the difficult times.
