DENISON-
Sharon Elizabeth Newsom Baker, 63, formerly of Denison was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at her daughters residence in Tyler, TX., surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 18, 1952 in Denison to Johnny Henry and Una Belle Frith Newsom. She attended Denison High School. Sharon enjoyed antiques and refurbishing them to look like new. She also collected race cars for her grandson Andrew and loved spending time with her family. She was lovingly referred to as “one hot mess” by her family, and will also be remembered as “one tough cookie” by the many doctors who cared for her.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Gonzalez and her husband, Johnny of Tyler; sons, John David “JD” Darland of Fort Stockton, TX, and Terry Dale Darland Sr. of Greenville; step-sons, Kevin Baker of Dallas, and Mark Baker of Garland; grandchildren, Shawna Rene Darland, Terry Dale Darland Jr., Micheal Dale Darland, LaShea Elizabeth Barnett, Angel RaShea Childers, Joshua Andrew Gonzalez, Kristy Wilson and Marissa Danielle Darland; great-grandchildren, Jason Lee Barnett, Davontay Herbert Masey, Journii Elizabeth Barnett, Adalyn Wilson and one great-grandson on the way; brother, Don Newsom of Denison; sisters Carolyn Tracy and Julie Gipson, both of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.W. Baker; her sister Ellen Boaz, and brother-in-law, Danny Boaz.
The family would like to give special thanks to Joyce and Vernell, and the staff of Hospice of East Texas in Tyler for the excellent love and care given to Sharon the last few years. Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 TX-248 Spur, Tyler, TX 75701.
