My brother, Tom was an amazing person. As the years have gone by, I have heard from many of his fellow classmates that he was bullied in school. He was small and only had the one hand, so I guess he was an easy target. i never even knew this. He has always OWNED that nub of his. He once told me that his teacher got onto him for writing with his left hand, to which he promptly waved at her with his right nub. He was quick and wiry and when we fought, he would get his nub into the small of my back and I would have to give up. Tom always told children who asked what happened to his hand that a bear had bitten it off. I was a young adult the very first time I ever heard of Tom referred to as “handicapped” and I was stunned. He could (and did) anything he wanted to do in his life, golf, mechanic, etc.) and I couldn’t believe anyone would have considered him as ever being handicapped. Friday evening, he was made whole again. He’s shaking hands–with his right hand not his left. He’s playing golf, standing on both of his legs, using both of his hands. He’s hugging our great grandmother Lathrop, our grandparents Keller, our dad and mom and our older brother, Charlie. He’s playing with the many animals he rescued over the years. He’s loving his new life. He is in Heaven. Margie

Have known Tom for many years. I was working at TMC as a nurse, so I had many years of seeing Tom coming to do his job. He was always so kind and compassionate with family members. Extremely professional. As a family member, I have had Tom and Jan there to help with planning funerals. They made it easier. Maybe only a nurse and a funeral director will understand this. But when my husband died and the preacher was delivering the message, we had a family member pass out ( he was sick). Tom and I rushed to him and looked at each other and I started laughing and looked at Tom. He started laughing too. I said what do we do now??!! The church service had several doctors and nurses in the room. He’d never had that happen before. I know my deceased husband would have gotten a kick out of it too!! Am sure some wondered why those two people were laughing when someone passes out. Well, Tom and I understood it. I liked you Tom. You were a neat guy and I appreciate the times you were there for so many people. Even though I haven’t seen you in several years, you are someone that will be missed. May God give you the peace that passes all understanding during this time. Condolences to all the family. Thanks for sharing him with us. Jimmie Evans McInnis

In the early 70’s, Tom Johnson and I worked on the ambulance crew together. He was a great partner on emergency calls and you could always count on him. Even though I live out of town now, we still maintained our friendship over the past 50 years. I would always try to drop by the office and visit when I was in Denison. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Tom. Terry Aday Bedford, TX

I will remember Tom for his jokes, his laugh and his unfaltering love of family and friends. He was a stalwart Red Cross volunteer, serving as President of the Texoma Chapter, and responding to many community disasters, near and far. I remember the old red fire truck, pancake breakfasts (especially the Mickey Mouse pancakes) and so many more things. God bless him and his family. Sharon M.
