Tommie Jane Shires, 86, of Denison, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Texoma Medical Center.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday night at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home. Reverend Jody Shires will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Michael Mygrants, Robert Grosz, Jody Shires, Jr., Robert Garland, Buck Spears and George Shires. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Grosz, Patrick Mygrants, Alfred Mygrants, Russell Shires and Darrell Rucker.
Tommie Jane was born on August 10, 1927 at Carpenter’s Bluff, the daughter of Thomas L. and Maggie Martin Lashley. She attended Oak Ridge schools and Grayson County College. She married Jody T. Shires on November 21, 1945 in Sherman. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1993. She worked for Nabisco in Denison and was a licensed cosmetologist. She was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church, a master quilter and enjoyed serving everyone food and refreshments. She grew a lot of vegetables and served some of them out of her garden to her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Reverend Jody Shires of Denison; daughters, Mary Grosz and her husband, Ron of Denison, Jane Mygrants and her husband, Mike of Denison, Connie Baker and her husband, Clarence of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Wanda Odom of Denison and Wilma Shires of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Jack Lashley and his wife, Linda of Denison; sister, Evelyn Cravens of Denison; grandchildren, Ronnie and Robert Grosz, Connie Spears, Michael, Patrick and Alfred Mygrants, Jody Shires, Jr., Russell and George Shires, Lisa Shanahan, Robert Garland, Christina Rucker; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Lavanda Sikes, Betty Lovett and Geraldine Brooks; brothers, Alva, Melvin, Vernon, Lloyd and Troy Lashley.

    An awesome lady. I knew her through her daughter, Wilma. She as quiet but had a great sense of humor. We still laugh about things she would say when we were visiting. I don’t know that I have ever met as nice a person, other than Wilma, in my life.
