Pottsboro
Vurlas (Mud) L. Wilson, 90, died on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Texoma Medical Center.
According to his wishes he was cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Vurlas was born in Pottsboro on March 10, 1926, the son of John William and Zimmie Gladys Terry Wilson. He was educated in Pottsboro and Denison.
He was 17 when he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II. He saw the flag raised on Iwo Jima and was in the harbor when the peace treaty was signed with Japan, ending World War II. He and Margie M. Roy were married on April 29, 1950 in Georgetown Community (Pottsboro). He was a welder in the Katy Car Shops until they closed, worked for TP&L on the high lines, was a farmer and a rancher. He was a member of Mirick Avenue Church of Christ.
Vurlas is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margie Wilson of Pottsboro; daughter, Connie Strattman and her husband, Steve of Pottsboro; granddaughters, Christeen Theakston McKinney and Amy Theakston Prisk and two great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jackie Lane Wilson; sister, Marjorie Hooper and brother, Bill Terry Wilson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
