One of my favorite memories of my brother involved a beloved pet, our orange tabby, Buffy. “Al” was a budding little hunter at the age of 14 and loved to hunt rabbit. I remember many nights of rabbit stew. On this particular day he’d been out all day hunting and returned home, disappointed. He hadn’t been able to bag even one of those little critters. Our cat, Buffy, who had a special affinity with him and my mom wrapped himself around Al’s legs then took off into the woods behind our home. He came back a few hours later with not only a rather large rabbit, but one still alive, and dropped it at his feet. The chagrin on his face was just priceless. He always loved that ‘damn cat’ and Buffy loved to dog trail him went he went hunting.

While researching family history 15 years ago, I saw a message board post by a man named Eldon Godfrey. My uncle’s middle name was Eldon, so I sent the post-er a message asking if he knew my uncle and my Godfrey grandparents in NY. Turned out my uncle was his grandfather. That’s how two cousins found each other. We had wonderful conversations over the years and great times when we got to see each other on ‘travel breaks’ as he and Vicky would take trips from TX to NY and back. My heart breaks for Vicky, Michelle and Jessie . . . Our prayers are with everyone who knew and loved him. Charlotte & John
