Charlene Stone

Charlene Stone

October 15, 1937 - August 7, 2023

Charlene was born October 15, 1937, to Juanita (Collins) and Zenas McDaniel. She was raised in Coleman, OK and graduated from Coleman High School. She was baptized and a member of the Church of Christ. Charlene received an Associate in Science degree from Murray State in 1957, a Bachelor in Science degree in Education from Southeastern State College in 1959, and a Master of Science from East Texas State in 1962. Charlene was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Charlene was a teacher and taught at every level from primary to college. She married Cecil Stone in 1968 and was a stepmother to his four children, Ronnie, Debbie, Suzy, & David.

Words mattered to Charlene. She was a voracious reader, she enjoyed writing, and she had a quick wit. If you ever needed to know where an expression came from, Charlene was your go to resource. She probably took the expression from John Wesley ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’ a bit too far at times. Charlene would always help those in need and was quick to give anything she owned to others.

Charlene was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughter of the American Revolution and Daughter of the Texas Republic. In her retirement, genealogy was a passion and she completed a great deal of work on the McDaniel family tree.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Zenas and Juanita McDaniel and her sister Radena. She is survived by her brothers, Kenneth, Dale and Allen (Lynn) as well as her stepchildren Ronnie Stone, Debbie Smithart, Suzy Glymph, & David Stone as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Coleman Church of Christ, 6900 State Hwy 48, Coleman, Oklahoma 73432. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 9 AM at the same location. Interment will follow at Coleman Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Coleman Highway 48 Church of Christ, 6900 State Hwy 48, Coleman, Oklahoma 73432.
