Denison
Eldon P. Lake, 94, died at his home in Denison on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
Eldon was born on March 16, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Arthur William and Odie Frances (Mannon) Lake.
Eldon met Betty Holder when she was 15 years old at a school function. He was proudly serving his country in the United States Army in Italy at the time. He and Betty got married on March 15, 1947 in Sherman, Texas with the Justice of the Peace. Betty preceded him in death on July 31, 2021.
After he and Betty got married, he was a farmer; worked on highway construction and the mechanic for the equipment, pulling their trailer home behind them as he moved on down the road, always with their two little girls; he then got a job at Cabell’s Dairy, becoming the “milkman”, delivering to hospitals, church camps at Lake Texoma, convenience stores and schools, where the children loved to see him coming because he was so nice and would stop and talk with them. He retired from Cabell’s Dairy. He had the “gift of gab” and never met a stranger. Eldon also had a love of fishing and he loved his church home, Central Church of Christ in Denison.
Eldon is survived by his daughters, Ronda Lake Wright of Denison and Barbara Lake Bailey and her husband, Eugene of Sherman; brothers, Stanley Lake of Edmond, OK and Richard Lake and his wife, Mary Ellen of Springtown, TX; sisters, Doris Odell of Albuquerque, NM and Delores Helberg and her husband, Dean of Choctaw, OK; 4 grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Betty; brother, Junior Lake; sisters, Virginia Linn, Betty Jo Toney and Joy Lake and grandson, Timothy Riddle.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 at Central Church of Christ with Brother Jess Whitlock and Brother Greg Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Bokchito Cemetery in Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Central Church of Christ Missionary Fund, 601 W. Crawford St., Denison, TX 75020 or to your favorite charity.
