James Elmer McCrory Sr., of Pottsboro, Texas, passed away on July 18, 2023. He was born on November 3, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Roy Howard and Mary Ann (Thornbrue) McCrory.
James was a faithful and hardworking man. He married the love of his life, Sharron, on January 27, 1957, in Gainesville, Texas. He was a faithful Christian and was a member of the Trinity Lighthouse Church in Denison, where he started the Men’s Ministry many years ago. He retired at a young age from TI with over 25 years of dedicated service. However, that didn’t stop James from working. He truly enjoyed learning all things new. From arts and crafts, woodworking, gardening, canning preserves, photography, and farming, nothing was out of his reach. James was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren and great grandchildren always had an adventure waiting on them when they were in his presence. In his own words, he was ‘young at heart.’ James was well respected and loved by all. He was dependable, self-reliant, and kind to others. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Sharron McCrory of Pottsboro, Texas; sons, Jimmy McCrory Jr. and Gary McCrory, both of Pottsboro, Texas; seven grandchildren, James McCrory III and wife Tabitha, Candace Tyree and husband Willie, Tyler D. McCrory, Whitney Flewallen and husband Nick, Melody Harbour and Husband Jody, Alisha Hillman and husband Kevin, and Jason McCrory Jr.; nineteen great grandchildren, Jax Skaines, James McCrory IV, Kevin Mauck, Kaliegh Mauck, Hector Perez Jr., Ezequiel Perez, Isaiah Perez, Anna-Lee Perez, Mary Perez, Callie Flewallen, Tinsley Flewallen, Presley Flewallen, Madison Elmore, Kiersten Mayo, Kady Harbour, Ashton Harbour, Max Harbour, Alexandria Hillman, and Delilah McCrory; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason Eldin McCrory Sr.; daughter-in-law, Angela McCrory; and five siblings, Roy McCrory, Elsie Metlock, Dan McCrory, Bob McCrory, and Edna Sisson.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, July 21, 2023, at Trinity Lighthouse Church, 2915 Spur 503, Denison, Texas 75020. Following the service, a committal will take place at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Pkwy, Sherman, Texas 75090. Family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 6 to 8 PM at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home, 511 FM 120, Pottsboro, Texas 75076.
