Jerry Perkins

On Monday, July 11, 2022, Jerry Mack Perkins was called home at the age of 76. The world has lost a great son, husband, father, and friend.
Jerry was born in Sherman, Texas on June 20, 1946. Being an only child, he was very spoiled by his Mother, Gladys Opal Perkins and Father, Howard Perkins. He was what you would call a “Mama’s boy.” Upon graduating High School Jerry went on to be a Sergeant in the Air Force fighting for his country. After serving, Jerry went on to work for Libbey Owens Ford where he was a forklift driver until they closed their doors. It was at LOF that he met the love of his life, Scherri Lea Burks Perkins. It was love at first sight. They were wed in Vegas on April 6, 1991.They spent 24 years as husband and wife until Scherri’s passing in 2015. He had lost the love of his life and his heart was broken from that day forward.
If you asked Jerry his greatest accomplishment it was that he raised Michelle Hedgecock and Derek Hedgecock as his own. His kids never looked at him as anything less than a Father and to them that is what he was. The impact he made on his kid’s life was one that will never be replaced. He guided them throughout their school years and continued into college years. Jerry had two grandchildren, Stryder Glen Hedgecock and Landry Lea Mullinax. He lit up when they were in his presence and he spoiled them rotten. They always wanted to go to Papa J’s house and ride the golf cart and raid his candy jar. Jerry also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Carolyn Malone and a brother-in-law, Rodney Malone. Jerry is also leaving behind many friends who loved him dearly. If you were to ask his friends what they remember about him they would all say that he had a smile that would light up a room and that he was dedicated to his wife even after her passing. Jerry was a friend to so many and like a Father to many others. He has left an impact on so many lives and left a void that will never be filled.
Jerry was preceded in death by his Mother and Father and his Wife.

A Celebration of Life in Jerry’s honor will be held on Sunday August 7, 2022 at 1pm at the Pottsboro Elks Lodge, 298 Elks Blvd. Pottsboro, TX 75076. The family asks that you bring a dish if you plan to come. Luke 23:43 says “And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Jerry is now in Paradise with Scherri smiling and laughing catching her up on all that she wasn’t here to see.
