Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary Norma Henderson Bruce passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the age of 91 in Mansfield Texas. Norma was born on July 1, 1925 in Zama Mississippi and she was married to Kenneth S. Bruce on June 22, 1942 in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Norma and Kenneth had six children, one of whom died in infancy. Kenneth was in the Navy during WWII and then made a career in the US Army and they lived on Army bases in many different states as well as in Japan and Germany. Norma was a homemaker and cared for the children as they grew up. Upon Kenneth’s retirement, they moved to Denison, Texas, where they lived until Kenneth’s death in 1991. After Kenneth’s death, Norma moved to the D/FW area and lived with her children’s families until her health began failing in 2015.
She was affectionately known as “Grammy” by all who came to know and love her. She was a lifelong Baptist, and was an blessing to all who knew her.
Norma was preceded in death by her father Alphus F. Henderson, her mother Velma Henderson, her husband Kenneth S. Bruce, her son Kenneth C. Bruce, her daughter Christine Bruce, siblings Opal Henderson and Nolan Henderson and siblings by marriage Jesse Bruce (Marjorie) and Wilma Chambers (Melvin).
She is survived by children Ben Bruce (Shirley), Melissa Thompson (Robert), Molly Morris and Mary Sidler (Jerry), grandchildren Christine Jones, Cody Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Reed Early (Marissa), Sarah Mathes, Trinity Bruce (Chelsie), Brianna Munoz (Victor), Sierra Granger (Jackson), Emily Sidler, Kathryn Sidler and six great grandchildren.
Family night will be Friday, October 28, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home, Denison, TX. Services will be Saturday, October 29, 2016 11:00 a.m. at Johnson-Moore Chapel with interment at Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, Oklahoma. Reverend Kenneth Lane will be officiating the service.
Pallbearers are Cody Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Reed Early, Trinity Bruce, Victor Munoz, and Noah Jones.
Her favorite charity was: Happy Hills Farm Childrens’ Home; 3846 N. Highway 144, Granbury, TX 76048-7811.
