Shirley Ray Mitchell

Shirley Ray Mitchell, born January 9, 1934, in Sherman Texas, to Raymond Inman and Gladys (Dyer) Inman joined our Lord on August 28, 2021. She was at home surrounded by her children and family members. She attended Sherman school and was a member of the class of 1951.Shirley worked at various times at Sears, US Census Bureau, John Reid Income Tax Service, and the McKinney Job Corp Center. She also assisted her husband in his avocations. Shirley married Byron A. (Buddy) Mitchell Jr. on November 24, 1950. They were married 63 ½ years when he passed away in June of 2014. She was also preceded in death by her father, mother and stepfather, Gladys and J.C. Henley, a great grandson – Tyler Brown-Mitchell and a son-in-law, Kenny Harp. She is survived by her 3 sons and wives: Bart and Linda Mitchell of Sherman, Mike and Delanna Mitchell of Van Alstyne, Randy and Kim Mitchell of Greenville. Her surviving daughters include Cathy Harp of Sherman, Lori Williams of Denison, and Lisa Mitchell of Sherman. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren and many dear friends. Shirley was active in St. Mary’s Women’s Guild, nursing home ministry, St. Mary’s hospitality ministry for Catholics new to the community, Senior Passport group, Texoma Square Dance Association and Meals on Wheels.She enjoyed playing and teaching Bridge, Skip-Bo; she was an avid reader.  Visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 31st at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home in Denison. The rosary will begin at 6:30pm followed by visitation from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Mass will be 11:00am, Wednesday, September 1st at St. Mary Catholic Church of Sherman,Texas and interment at Calvary Cemetery in Denison,Texas. Shirley requested that In lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Sherman and/or to Hospice Plus of Grayson County.
